The Effective Skin Care Solution for Hyperpigmentation & Summer Sun Damage

Hyperpigmentation and Summer sun damage got you down?

Don’t fret… learn how this fall power duo can help to reveal fresh fall skin!

I thought this blog would tie in with the theme of Glo’s recently launched fall promotion by helping to explain my favorite fall power duo: microneedling + chemical peels!

Microneedling + Chemical Peels can reveal Fresh Fall Skin post summer sun!

Fall is the perfect time for microneedling, peels, lasers; all procedures that require you to stay shaded from the sun! After a treatment as mentioned above, you want to avoid the sun as much as possible to avoid hyperpigmentation and color changes and give your skin the time it needs to heal. It’s a little easier to avoid the sun in the fall months when UV levels are lower and the sun is less robust.

During the past few months of summer we have been playing outside in the sun, taking vacations, hiking, laying by the pool - much of the sun damage we experience is incurred during these past few months!! That is why it is so important for you to wear your SPF! Fall/winter is often the time that we want to get our skin back to optimal health, hydrated and undo/or keep sun damage at bay.

A big pro of this winning combination are the Holidays!! That time is quickly approaching where patients are starting to prepare to look and feel their best for the holiday season that is filled with events that are about to unfold. Chemical peels and microneedling are a great option for those patients looking to address fine lines and wrinkles, enhance the quality of their skin, minimize sun damage and to achieve that desired glow of absolutely radiant skin. Having a treatment done now will give you ample time to heal before the holidays and help you to look and feel your absolute best.

What are Chemical Peels?

There are a wide variety of chemical peels available. Here at Glo we offer several different levels of peels. The strength and makeup of the solution are dependent on the type of peel.

  1. ZO Stimulator Peel: The ZO Stimulator Peel is the perfect “lunchtime” peel with no downtime. This peel is made up of a combination of lactic, citric and salicylic acid plus potent concentrations of other active ingredients to exfoliate the skin, while stimulating the growth of collagen and elastin. A highly effective treatment for the many signs of skin aging, this peel is ideal for treating Melasma, sun damage, fine lines, uneven texture, large pores, dull skin, and even acne! Suitable for any skin type or color. Perfect for getting that glow prior to an event or date night!

  2. ZO 3 Step Peel: This is an innovative, in-office treatment peel followed by an at-home treatment to combat the signs of aging + skin discoloration. This peel is a little more intensive and requires preconditioning with a retinol. The treatments utilizes a blend of exfoliants, retinol and multi-action agents to help improve skin health and treat many signs of aging. The 3-Step Peel is a medium depth peel, designed to treat acne, melasma, sun damage, fine lines, texture roughness, large pores and dullness.

  3. VI Peel: This is the peel that will be launched with Glo’s fall promo - there is a few days' downtime with this peel and you will notice results in as little as 7 days. This peel is more intensive than the “lunchtime peel” however there is no preconditioning necessary for this peel and this peel is safe for all skin types. There are different options of the VI Peel to choose from. The most popular to help target sun damage/hyperpigmentation is called the Precision Plus Peel. There are also other types of peels offered in this line, another popular VI Peel is called Purify Peel which helps to target acne and acne scarring.

During a peel, this skin is treated with an exfoliating agent which basically destroys the portions of the skin that it is applied to, encouraging the growth of new skin over time. Over the weeks following the procedure, the skin will peel and begin the process of creating new layers to replace the ones that have been destroyed. Chemical peels are often used to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, but they also enhance the texture and clarity of the skin as well as address pigment changes as well as sun damage.

What is Microneedling?

Here at Glo we use the SkinPen Microneedling device which causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body's natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodeling of collagen and elastin. Treatment with the skin pen is also known as collagen induction therapy. The SkinPen is a medical-grade, FDA-approved device that helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines, reduce the signs of aging, target moderate-to-severe wrinkles, deep folds and scars all over the body as well as improve overall texture and tone of the skin. In fact, it is now the gold standard of microneedling.

What Are the Benefits of Combining a Chemical Peel + Microneedling?

The skin of our face is exposed to more harmful UV rays than almost anywhere else. This results in accelerated cellular breakdown in the thinner, more delicate facial skin. The bad news is that our faces become one of the first places that aging begins to show. As a result, we’re most likely to develop wrinkles, age spots, sun spots and signs of fine lines on our face before the rest of our body shows signs of getting older.

It is entirely possible to revitalize your skin. We can work to enhance the appearance of your skin by combining a chemical peel with microneedling to exfoliate away dead, dry skin cells and stimulate new collagen production.

Combining chemical peels and microneedling enhances your skin from the inside and out. We recommend that you have a chemical peel first to exfoliate the top layers of your skin. Then approximately 4 weeks later, complete a microneedling treatment to boost collagen production in the deeper layers of your skin. Applying a chemical peel a few weeks prior to microneedling is more effective and can penetrate deeper after a chemical peel has removed the outermost layers of your skin. (Both treatments are compatible with most skin types).

Let us help you to hit the refresh button on your skin this fall with a revitalizing combination treatment. Combining a series of peels and microneedling treatments will help you achieve maximum benefits by boosting collagen production within the deeper layers of your skin and get you glowing into the holidays.
